Endocrine disrupting chemicals during diet-induced weight loss – A post-hoc analysis of the LOWER study

چکیده
The link between exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and the rapid increase in prevalence of obesity has recently been suggested. However, magnitude health impact EDC at-risk populations remain largely unclear. In this study, we investigated effect a dietary intervention driven reduction adipose tissue on urinary mobilization, whether higher leads impaired weight loss obese individuals. post-hoc analysis Lifestyle, OverWeight, Energy Restriction (LOWER) study from Netherlands, 218 subjects were included. Five parabens, three bisphenols thirteen metabolites eight phthalates measured 24-h urine using LC-MS/MS, before after three-months calory-restricted program. Associations adiposity-related traits EDCs tested multivariable linear regression mixed effects models. A multiple testing correction based false discovery rate (FDR) was applied. After 3-month intervention, paraben bisphenol excretions remained similar. Excretions mono-butyl most high-molecular-weight decreased, whereas mono-ethyl phthalate increased (all FDR<0.05). not associated with excretions. Higher baseline post-intervention body-mass index (methyl-, propylparaben), waist circumference (propylparaben, mono-n-butyl phthalate, mono-benzyl phthalate), body fat percentage (mono-ethyl phthalate). parabens index, participants, observed intervention. may lead mobilization successively exposures reduced loss, suggesting obesogenic properties.

Endocrine disrupting chemicals
The idea that xenobiotic chemicals could inappropriately modlate the endocrine system thereby causing detrimental effects n wildlife and humans was first proposed 20 years ago at the atershed Wingspread Conference [1,2]. These endocrine disruptng chemicals (EDCs) have long been controversial, with a great eal of discussion raging in the scientific literature. Much of this ontroversy has centere...
متن کاملCryptorchidism and endocrine disrupting chemicals
Prospective clinical studies have suggested that the rate of congenital cryptorchidism has increased since the 1950s. It has been hypothesized that this may be related to environmental factors. Testicular descent occurs in two phases controlled by Leydig cell-derived hormones insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) and testosterone. Disorders in fetal androgen production/action or suppression of Insl3 a...
متن کاملPrenatal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals and birth weight-A prospective cohort study.
Prenatal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals may affect fetal development through disruption of hormonal actions and epigenetic modifications, potentially predisposing individuals to later on-set health risks, such as obesity. The objective of this study was to determine associations between biological exposure markers of various endocrine disrupting chemicals and birth weight in a newly...
متن کاملGestational exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in relation to infant birth weight: a Bayesian analysis of the HOME Study
BACKGROUND Pregnant women are exposed to a mixture of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Gestational EDC exposures may be associated with changes in fetal growth that elevates the risk for poor health later in life, but few studies have examined the health effects of simultaneous exposure to multiple chemicals. This study aimed to examine the association of gestational exposure to five chem...
متن کاملThe challenge posed by endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Rapid regulatory developments in the area of environmental endocrine disruption present a series of potential problems that are identified and illustrated with examples taken from the recent literature. A list of priorities is provided, including the need for additional epidemiological and wildlife studies, the derivation of a coordinated testing strategy, agreement on the toxicities expected o...
